R2-D2, Star Wars Stamp, Princess Leia

R.I.P. Roscoe Lee Browne (1925-2007)

Roscoe Lee Browne performed with exquisite grace in so very many roles (see Browne's Wikipedia entry). He was one of my most favorite actors, so smooth in whatever he did. There really is a little less grace in the world with him gone. Apart from his film, stage, and television roles, I'll always remember the magnificence he brought to his role as the narrator on "The Story of Star Wars" record album. 'Cause I'm a geek--!

We also recently lost Browne's "Uptown Saturday Night" co-star, Calvin Lockhart.

Makes sense...

You Are 96% Feminist

You are a total feminist. This doesn't mean you're a man hater (in fact, you may be a man).
You just think that men and women should be treated equally. It's a simple idea but somehow complicated for the world to put into action.

Part of a letter I sent to a newspaper... (the stupid Imus thing)

I do think Imus was out of line--beyond the feminist and racist implications, women's basketball has had a heartbreakingly uphill climb to reach any kind of prominence in the American sports world, something which can be and arguably has been totally taken for granted by the many multimillion-dollar males of the sport (and I still think it was completely irresponsible of Chicago not to begin a WNBA team until last year, in light of all of the success of the Chicago Bulls, but that's another argument for another day, as are the unfair fractions of salaries that the WNBA players get in comparison to the NBA players)--and his thoughtless comment cannot be justified on any level, no matter how many straw men rap artists he and his defenders want to try to bring into the conversation.
